This is a special edition of my newsletter, in which I would like to recommend several discord/forum communities which are all (or at least partly) about Tech Art and/or VFX.

I had the idea, because recently someone joined my discord and was open for tips to find more communities.

Sorry, for not having anything specific for Unity. I didn't work much with that engine. :(

Not only a discord, but there is also a classic forum! This is great because discord is not accessible to search engines and therefore the knowledge is walled off.

In the forum, I especially like the personal work section, where everyone can post updates in their own thread (here is mine). A fantastic way of documenting progress, which can be a huge motivation. It's fun to look back on what one did 5 years ago. :)

Nice game dev community which offers a #vfx-art channel and bonus points for having a #women-in-games channel! 💘

This is a paid VFX course but offers a discord server where you can participate in several channels even without paying. But you have to "apply" via form on their website by giving name and E-Mail.

Another server from a project about paid VFX courses, but the server is free and even offers VFX challenges. Right now runs a "Natural Force" event. 🍁

You may already know the awesome feed with VFX and Tech Art from harry, and this is his discord.

The Website/Youtube is an excellent source for tutorials, and here is the related discord.

One of the oldest game dev communities! To be honest, I don't visit the forum too often anymore. When I do, it feels too clunky in comparison to modern forums based on discourse. But there are cool threads like Tech Artist - What are you working on: FOREVER Edition!

The discord offers a #technical-talk and a #shader-related channel.

You may know Asher from his crazy cool liquid simulations and this is his tech art discord. It's the only one offering a specific #tech-art-nsfw channel for soft-body-wiggle physics for certain body parts.

Most people know, that there is a huge Godot Discord (also a great Forum!), but did you know, that there is a specific server just for Godot VFX and Shaders?
But even the "normal" server also offers a channel for #animation-and-vfx.

Formerly known as "Unreal Slackers", this is a huge discord about Unreal Engine and offers #visual-fx channel.

THE discord for everything Houdini related.

Everything about Embergen/Liquidgen/etc.
