Hey lovely people! â
Hope you have a nice warm tea and a good time wherever you are. ðĩ
ðĐļ Monday Syndrome
Tufan was so nice to translate my game into Turkish and as a small thank you I would like to promote his just released steam page! Check it out & wishlist! :)
I added update 12 to my old Diablo 3 Resource Bubbles article because Ben Cloward is showing how to create such a bubble from scratch in a new tutorial series.
Cyan's blog is not only containing amazing breakdowns, but the most recent article (about shorelines) is a conversion (and extension) of a Twitter thread, and I like this method of archiving.
Stumbled across this page with opti tips for Blender. Yes, Blender is not real-time, but I found things like "Too high resolution for no perceptual difference" or "Alpha blending overdraw" apply to "us" as well.
Something very different: This post as actually about taking pictures of birds with low camera shutter speed. But it looks to me like an amazing noise texture for VFX! Maybe instead of using Substance Designer, we should take more "slow" photos of birds? :D
VFX add a lot to games, but usually we never see a game without them. Luckily, thanks to a glitch in Guilty Gear Xrd we now have a recording of how the game looks without VFX! Perfect to compare how much they add to the game feel.
Math is boring without context, and so I'm happy that there are some resources which show math in context of game dev.
3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development: I followed this one for some chapters and it's very good, BUT: Don't skip the exercises! When I read a chapter I was like "OK yes, I understood!" until I started the exercises and suddenly realized "I understood nothing". This was the moment where the real learning process started for me, by going back and forth between the chapter and the exercises.
Essential Math for Game Devs: Nice visualization, but not enough explanation for me WHY stuff (aka math) works like it does. But as reference for people who know the math already, it's very nice!
